Bringing Africa and the world to Ostrava: the AfrOstrava case study
A brand, a website and a year-round social engine for a new multicultural festival, seen by 171.1K people before the gates opened.
AfrOstrava is a multicultural festival that brings African music, dance, fashion, art and food to Ostrava, in the former ironworks of Lower Vítkovice. It needed a brand, a home online and a voice that would carry it all year, not just on the weekend of 14 to 15 August 2026. We built all three.
The challenge
A new festival had to win over a new city. AfrOstrava had to introduce African culture to a Czech audience, earn the trust of partners and sell tickets months before the gates opened. Three things had to be true at once.
- Credible from day one. A brand that partners, sponsors and the city could put their name to.
- Two audiences, one voice. Czech locals and the African and expat community, in Czech and English.
- Loud all year. Momentum for months before the festival, and between editions.
The idea: a brand as loud as the festival
Music, dance, fashion, art and gastronomy under one roof needed a brand with energy. A warped, hand-lettered wordmark moves like the music. A red, black and cream palette, organic blob shapes and torn-paper edges run across the site and socials. Sunburst frames and bold type give every artist and announcement the feel of the festival itself.
A multicultural celebration that brings Africa and the world to Ostrava.
The system
1. One home for tickets, partners and volunteers
afrostrava.cz carries the brand into a site that does the selling. Every section ends in a ticket or partner button, with dedicated paths for volunteers, partners, past events, FAQs and a newsletter. The venue story, a former ironworks that is now a cultural landmark, gives the festival a sense of place.

2. Every artist, a moment
One template system covered every beat of the festival campaign: the headliner reveal, led by the CKay announcement, a card for each artist, countdowns from 47 days out and ticket offers to drive early sales.

3. Always on, between festivals
Instead of going quiet after the festival, the account ran a programme: Afro dance workshops, Connecting Cultures panels in Ostrava, curated playlists and stories about African heritage. That is how it reached 184 posts and kept the community growing all year.

The results
In the run-up to the festival, the content was seen by 171.1K people and viewed 368.5K times. Instagram drove the community and Facebook drove the clicks: together that is 10.9K link clicks and 15.3K profile visits, and 1,722 Instagram followers built from scratch.
What we took from it
- Make the brand as loud as the room. A festival identity has to carry the energy of the weekend into every post.
- Design every page to sell. When each section ends in a ticket or partner button, the site works as hard as the campaign.
- Don't go quiet between editions. A year-round programme is what turns an audience into a community.
